Embarking on the journey through the world of sports performance, Nate Mitton has over a decade of experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach, Hockey Coach, and Professional Hockey Player.
Nate launched Athlete Farm Niagara in 2020, which is a high-performance training facility for athletes and adults and has since tripled in size. As the Owner of AFN, Nate leads a team of over 10 High Performance Coaches as they coach athletes, adults and teams through strength, speed, power and mobility training. Nate also is an Assistant Coach of the Brock University Men’s Hockey team, of which in his first-year coaching alongside Head Coach, TJ Manestersky, brought the team to an all-time top winning percentage of 60.5% (23-15-0).
Nate’s expertise in hockey, and the art of coaching, was developed through playing professional within the Buffalo Sabres Organization for the Cincinnati Cyclones, as well as in the Anaheim Ducks organization for the Utah Grizzlies, both of which are in the ECHL. Prior to his pro career Nate played at his alma mater, Ontario Tech, for 4 years, while leading the team as Assistant Captain for his 2 final years. While at Ontario Tech, Nate completed his Bachelor’s degree in Criminology & Justice, with a specialization in Youth Crime & Justice.
Family is incredibly important to Nate, who is also a proud dad of two, Noah (3) and Myah (18 months), and loving husband to his wife, Danielle.
Nate deeply believes that your character supersedes your reputation. Just as John Wooden says “Your reputation is who people think you are, your character is who you really are.”
“Dedication, commitment, passion and purpose are four words that have described my journey as a coach and athlete.
From an early age, sport and training have been two of my biggest passions.
My love for athletics started at an early age where I was fortunate to be able to play a number of sports throughout my childhood. I started playing organized hockey at a young age, learning the basics in house league, growing through the Kitchener Minor Hockey system, then progressing to the junior hockey level (GOJHL), followed by continuing to play hockey and get my education at Ontario Tech University. After graduating, I decided to pursue my childhood dream of playing professionally in Alabama, Utah and Ohio.
This journey has taken countless hours of training and a relentless underdog mindset - and could not have been achieved without great coaches and mentors along the way. They are the ones who have inspired me to give back and help encourage and inspire young athletes in the community.”
